Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will hold a public hearing Oct. 27 in Helena to discuss big game hunting-season extension procedures and objectives.

The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission is considering a new rule that outlines when and how hunting seasons can be extended.

The hearing, which will be held at FWP Headquarters, 1460 E. 6 th Ave., is set for 7 p.m.

FWP generally depends on a five-week hunting season to manage and control the state’s deer and elk populations. The proposed rule is designed to provide for season extensions when normal management falls short of harvest goals, when extreme weather will likely cause animals to die, or when game damage is occurring across a large area of Montana.

Written comments will be accepted through Oct. 29. For information call 406-444-2612; email: fwpwld@state.mt.us ; or write: Season Extension; Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks; Wildlife Division; P.O. Box 200701; Helena, MT, 59620-0701.
