Fans of the popular Smith River float have until Feb. 15 to submit their permit applications. Applications can be submitted over the Internet for a nominal transaction fee, in person or through traditional mail. To apply online, select Online Licensing on the FWP web site at fwp.mt.gov . Applicants will need an FWP automated licensing number and a credit card to pay the application fee. To apply by mail, go to the Smith River webpage at fwp.mt.gov to download and complete the application. Or, apply in person by going to an FWP office . FWP officials said the Smith River permit drawing will occur in late February or early March. Successful applicants will receive a permit and information packet in the mail. Unsuccessful applicants will receive a refund check, minus the five dollar drawing fee, or a postcard if they choose to donate their fee to the Corridor Enhancement Account.
