Anglers planning to test the waters on opening weekend of western Montana’s small stream and river fishing opener are urged to plan ahead to purchase their fishing licenses early. The computer system that hosts Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Automated Licensing System is scheduled for about two hours of early morning maintenance work 6-8 a.m., Sunday, May 18. No licenses can be purchased during this brief Sunday morning maintenance period. Montana’s 2008 general river and stream fishing season opener is set for Saturday, May 17 in most of the western portion of Montana. Most Montana lakes and reservoirs, and fishing in the eastern portion of Montana, is open year round. To purchase a fishing license, or to pick up a complete copy of the new 2008 fishing regulations, visit the nearest FWP office, or license provider; or visit FWP online at fwp.mt.gov .
