FWP and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service are investigating a report of a dead wolf in the Lower Thompson River around the Priscilla Peak Trail. An individual who discovered it while out looking for shed antlers reported the wolf to game warden Tom Chianelli. A necropsy indicated that the mortality was man-caused. FWP is looking for any information concerning this poaching incident.

Those responsible for the shooting could face a substantial fine and/or up to 6 months in jail if convicted. FWP is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the individuals(s) responsible for this incident. Callers may contact 1-800-TIP-MONT with information and may remain anonymous. Although wolves have been removed from endangered species protection, Montana has not yet established a licensed hunting season for wolves.
