Visit Beavertail Hill State Park Friday, June 27 to get a glimpse into Butte’s mining history.   The free program is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the state park southeast of Missoula.

Tom Satterly , a former miner and a descendent of Butte miners, will re-create the day of the worst hard-rock mining disaster in history, the Granite Mountain/Speculator Mine Fire in Butte in June 1917. Through his costumed dramatic performance, Satterly will take the audience on a visit into the mine shaft where a couple of miners are facing imminent disaster.

Beavertail Hill State Park, located 26 miles southeast of Missoula just off Interstate 90, offers evening programs every Friday at 8 p.m. through Aug. 22.   For more information on this and other upcoming programs, contact Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) Interpretive Specialist, Vernon Carroll, at 406 542-5533 or email vcarroll@mt.gov.
