The Private Land/Public Wildlife Council is seeking public comment through Oct.15 on five draft recommendations regarding several Montana hunting and access issues.
According to PL/PW Council Chairman Land Tawney, the group adopted draft recommendations seeking to:
- create a voluntary continuing hunter education program
- modify Block Management landowner incentives
- explore new ways to develop voluntary private-land hunting access agreements
- increase opportunities for the adult nonresident children of Montana residents to come home to hunt
- prevent nonresident hunters from acting as licensed Montana hunting guides while also hunting with a Montana outfitter-sponsored license
Gov. Brian Schweitzer appointed the 15-member Council comprised of hunters, landowners, outfitters, legislators, and a Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commissioner to make recommendations related to FWP hunting and fishing access programs, landowner/hunter relations, outfitting industry relations, and other issues related to private lands and public wildlife.
