Hunters looking for deer north of Choteau in the old Teton Spring Creek Preserve need to remember that the preserve has been replaced by a cooperative hunting area.

For decades the land inside the preserve was open only to archery hunting for deer; no firearms allowed. That changed in 2005 when the Legislature abolished the preserve, which sits inside portions of deer hunting districts 404 and 450

To satisfy safety concerns, Fish, Wildlife and Parks worked with local landowners to create a cooperative hunting area with special rules. The rules include what type of weapons may be used and where.

To obtain a copy of the rules, list of private landowners and map of the cooperative hunting area, hunters should stop by the FWP Conrad or Choteau field offices or visit or call the FWP Region 4 office in Great Falls, 454-5840.
