On October 28, two wolves were lethally removed from the Hog Heaven Pack in response to a livestock depredation earlier in October. The wolves were killed about eight miles west of Nirada. This makes a total of seven wolves removed from this pack. Wolf Management Specialist Kent Laudon notes that there are still 5-7 wolves remaining in the pack. The Hog Heaven pack, or at least the two radio collared animals, may be connecting with another pack or have extended their territory. FWP continues to monitor the situation, and will communicate with USDA Wildlife Services on the pack’s activities. In other wolf news, on October 28 a young female wolf was found dead near Murphy Lake in the Trego area. USFWS agents and FWP law enforcement wardens are conducting a criminal investigation into the incident.
