Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reminds black bear hunters that applications for a spring black bear license must be postmarked on April 13. Or, spring black bear licenses may be purchased at license providers through Sunday, April 14. Black bear hunting licenses purchased after April 14 cannot be used until the fall black bear hunting season. Hunters may hold only one black bear license per license year. Black bear hunters are also required to successfully complete a bear identification test in order to obtain a Montana black bear hunting license. The new identification program is intended to prevent mistaken killings of grizzly bears and to help Montana maintain its black bear hunting season. The spring black bear season opens April 15 and closes in May or June depending on the area. Check the black bear hunting regulations for details.
