Montana Boating Tips

Boating in Montana is a new experience for many visiting the state for the first time. Lakes and reservoirs are abundant, but boating season is shorter here than in many locations. Nights are cooler and waters are colder than in many states. The shorter boating season also means that Montanans and visitors to the state have more time between seasons when basic boating laws begin to gather dust in the back recesses of boaters and #39; memories.

The Gallatin Valley Navy Says Be Safe On The Water

Kayaking is one of the fastest growing sports and understandably so.
"Kayaks are lighter-weight and easier to load on vehicles than canoes, and paddling a solo kayak is even simpler than canoeing with a partner," said Marc Goldsmith of Bozeman, a member of the Gallatin Valley Navy, an informal group of friends who enjoy flat-water paddling.

The Gallatin Valley Navy

Who would have thought—a navy right here in Gallatin Valley of Montana, hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean?
Well, not exactly a navy. We're a group of local water-loving residents who unofficially claim the name and who share a love of paddling on calm, moving water.
