Occasionally, requests are received to place monuments or other forms of commemoration for loved ones at state parks and fishing access sites. Great care is taken in the selection, location, design, and setting of public monuments or other forms of commemoration on FWP-managed property. Generally, monuments are allowed only where they commemorate those widely recognized as rendering distinguished public service and where they will not impair the usefulness or aesthetic qualities of the site. Burials and spreading of cremated remains are typically not allowed at State Parks. Rare exceptions might be made through petition to the FWP Commission, if it can be shown that there is historical or interpretive significance to the burial ash spreading, or some other extremely compelling rationale.
