Snowmobile & OHV Permits

Montana residents must register their OHVs and snowmobiles at the County Treasurers Office in the county where the owner resides. See the details below for nonresident permits.

Nonresident Snowmobile Permits

Nonresidents who plan to ride their snowmobiles in Montana must purchase a Snowmobile Nonresident Temporary Use Permit for $25 per machine.

  • Apply Online - You may apply for your Nonresident Snowmobile Permit online through Online Licensing System.
  • Paper Application (Snowmobile Nonresident Temporary Use Permit Application 24 KB) - You may print the Snowmobile Nonresident Temporary Use Permit Application, fill it out, and mail it back to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (address is on the application).
  • Vendor List - You can apply for a Snowmobile Nonresident Temporary Use Permit at one of the many vendors in Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Wyoming.

Nonresident OHV Permits

Nonresidents with OHVs that are not registered in their home state must purchase an OHV Nonresident Temporary Use Permit that is valid for 30 days. Permits are $5 and available from FWP offices and some County Tresurers Offices (please call the Country Treasurers Office in your county).

  • Paper Application (OHV Nonresident Temporary Use Permit Application 27 KB) - You may print the OHV Nonresident Temporary Use Permit Application, fill it out, and mail it back to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (address is on the application).
  • Vendor List - You can apply for a Nonresident OHV Temporary Use Permit at one of the many vendors in Montana and Idaho.
